(ABC 6 News) — Thanks to community donations, there’s a new life-saving tool for pets at the Rochester Fire Department.
The group BACB Unleashed raised money for pet oxygen masks after learning that one of these saved a dog’s life from a fire in Austin this past summer. In just four weeks, nearly $900 was raised to pay for the masks.
Now, all 15 trucks within the Rochester Fire Department will be equipped with the oxygen masks.
“I love their energy about it, and again a lot of the firefighters here are animal lovers and pet owners so they understand what people in this tragic situation would go through if they lost a pet in a fire,” Pam Miller, with BACB Unleashed, said.
The group is now trying to get these masks for surrounding communities. Right now, they’re in talks with Dodge Center’s fire department.
