STEWARTVILLE, Minn. (KTTC) — It was a day for the dogs in Stewartville Saturday afternoon, but pets of any kind were welcome to Pets in the Park for a day filled with fun activities.
This is the first year of the event, where nearly 100 families and their beloved pets came out to enjoy the outdoors and a variety of pet friendly vendors, frisbee contests, pool time, minnow races, and a costume contest.
The morning began with a one mile walk around Florence Park and ended around 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Organizers say the event was held to promote Stewartville as a pet-friendly city.
“We’re also trying to get a dog park in town and we have, the city has a task force that they’re looking for a spot in town and hopefully that will come to fruition real soon in the next hopefully year or so,” said Gwen Ravenhorst, a Stewartville Chamber of Commerce administrator.
The event is also working to raise funds for dog stations at the various public parks throughout Stewartville. Five different rescue groups were also at today’s event for participants to consider adopting a pet.
