Carob has been considered the healthy alternative to chocolate for our dogs. Since so many dogs are naturally attracted to chocolate and yet chocolate can be hazardous and even fatal to our four-legged friends, we love CAROB!
The carob tree is a member of the legume (pea) family and grows in the Mediterranean areas. It favors arid conditions and is resistant to fungus and pests so little or no chemical sprays are needed in its cultivation. For the first 15 years it will not produce fruit, however a large, old tree can produce one ton of beans.
The tree’s large, long bean-like pods are picked, dried then ground into fine powder that looks very similar to cocoa. Carob is 80% protein and contains vitamins A, B, B@, B3 and D. It is also high in calcium, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium and contains iron, manganese, barium, copper and nickel. Carob is free from caffeine and theobromine, which can be fatal to dogs. It is also free from phenylethylamine.
So go ahead and reward Rover with a carob treat! We recommend our “I LUV MY DOG” treat, the PUPcake, a BARKday Cake or our Carob Chip PB Bone, they are SLOBBER-icous!
